Perspective Change

My immunity to any other illnesses or hospital visits outside of diabetes ran out this week when Talia had an emergency appendectomy. Sam who has been the patient many times, comforted her, made her laugh, and stayed with her during her first hospital experience. After 10 days, she left with an IV that had to be worn for three weeks. Despite the line in her arm, she faced the remains of summer and attended camp with bravery and poise. As for us, it's been awhile since we spent time in a hospital and had to revisit that feeling of fragility. We are so grateful to NYU for such excellent care (including therapy dogs, a July 4th party, and lots of ice cream.)
